At the moment it will be just the more experienced club members giving pointers, the second session will be hosted by Caoline Boyle who is a qualified spin instructor( Lance Armstrong wasn't available but at least he IS coming out of retirement and not just constantly saying he is Brian). But as were only starting of we'll see how numbers are and other people's input will be taken on board.

No offence to caroline (dont want to be mugged out at mullaghmean!!) but i'd recommend either sarah or steve down at the bikeshop if u need expert tuition at the sessions. They both are currently bike-racing at a pretty good standard and am sure they'd be invaluable to the tri club.

I could not agree more with Paul. It seems to me that Midland Tri Club is trying to totally disconnect from the Wheelers. Guys, we're all on the same team here! Communications and overlapping training/expertise between the different groups can only be good for the club(s) going forward. Can someone explain to me why we're not engaging with the Wheelers more? Was this a committee decision?

Hi Ronan,
I'd agree with Paul too, but sometimes we have to take control of our own destiny and take on offer what we can. The communication between fellow club members is easier than cross club members. As a member of the Mullingar Harriers/Lakeside Wheelers and Midland Tri (not to mention the camera club) I can see this is the way it is. We as a tri club should do all we can to support the running/swimming and cycling club (and the canoe club indirectly) but also address the concerns of the people only interested in Triathlon ......... as you become more experienced and used to the whole thing it is easier to accept that there are benifits with more interaction with other clubs...... I suppoose baby steps if you like.
As for engaging with the wheelers more?? Do we not? I thought there was a bunch of triathletes who went along to the training weekend last week organised by the wheelers (very much enjoyed by all accounts) ......... I know too that we have a lot of wheelers on the tri mailing list to keep them up to date with anything we are doing as do the wheelers keep us informed (more so than the running club)........ I'm sorry if it seems that to you that Midland Tri Club is trying to disconnect from the Wheelers, but as far as I'm concerned I don't agree.
Brian
I agree with your sentiments in

Fair enough Brian. However, if that is the case then why is there a bunch of wheelers going cycling on a Sat morning and a bunch of MTCs going separately? Why are we trying to arrange turbo sessions on a Monday when there are already turbo sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays? These are not baby steps these are not steps at all. All of this has been communicated so I do not understand how there is a problem with communications here.

Again, cycling and triathlon are two different sports. The aspirations of the cyclists differ from the triathletes. The more experienced triathlete will know what cycling club sessions are good for them as equally an experienced cyclist knows what sessions are good for them.
The saturday spins for the triathletes has been going on for longer than the Wheeler saturday spins as the main cycle for the wheelers is on Sunday and a lot of the triathletes like to run in Belvedere on Sunday. If I recall a few wheelers went out with the triathlete spin when it first started but didn't return (my guess is that the session did not suit them - maybe it was the conversations about swimming!).
"There are turbo sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays"........ these are the same nights as run training with the Mullingar Harriers. The Midland Triathlon Club involves Swimming, Cycling an Running NOT Cycling, Cycling and Cycling!
Myself or C will be along to the Wheeler AGM this evening as too will some other MTCs and this is a topic well worth raising.

Fair enough Also, if we do raise this tonight then I think the committee should agree that this is the way to go and, if so, it should be raised by a committee member.

To be honest i certainly dont think any of us are intentionally not engaging with the Wheelers ( I'm on the Wheelers Committee). It just like Brian said.....our training times clash on many of the days ...turbo tues/thurs clash with Harriers and Sunday Spins clash with Belvedere..Also teaching spinning is quite different to regular cycling and with Carolines experience as a spinning instructor she will be able to show us a range of exercises which can be done on the bike apart from sprints etc. If we are going to avail of Steve and Sarahs expertise it might be better to get them on a training cycle with us outdoors....
We should probably be all more involved in the time trials and races during the summer season though....and i'm one of the biggest culprits here as i didnt do any of them either ...but maybe next summer we should ALL get involved with these time trials and races they would do us all good.
We should also maybe try and encourage more of the Wheelers into taking part in a few triathlons...partiularly our local ones Tri To Beat , CK Tri and the Duathlon in Belvedere...if they only want to cycle we should encourage them to be part of a team..

I hear you Dorothy. For me though, we need cycling expertise and the wheelers have it. They are not interested in swimming or running so they don't really need our help. I think it would be a great shame and a mistake not to try to get their expertise to help us to improve especially when it's on our doorstep
