I would like to encourage everyone in Midland Tri to take part in the National Series in 2009.
How you score points in the National Series
For each race you do in the series you'll receive points..
Your total score for the 2009 season will be the sum of the scores for your:
Three best olympic distance races in the series;
Two best sprint distance races in the series;
The next best scoring race (standard, sprint, or other distance) in the series.
That’s six races in total from the following races in the series for 2009:
Ulster Bank Valentia Island Triathlon Sprint (Sea Swim)Sat 16 May
Northwest Sprint Triathlon Derry Sprint (Pool Swim)Sun 24 May XX
TriAthy Sprint Sat 30 May
TriAthy Olympic Sat 30 May XX
Crooked Lake Triathlon, Camlough, Armagh Sprint Sat 13 June XX
Mullaghmore Triathlon Sprint Sat 20 June XX
SRAM Hook or By Crook Triathlon Sprint Sat 20 June
Kilkee Hell of the West Olympic Sat 27 June XX
Lough Ine Challenge Baltimore Cork Olympic Sun 12 July
TriAthlone Sprint Sat 18 July XX
King of the Hill Kinsale Sprint Sat 25 July
Triathlon Connemara Olympic Sat 25 July
Beast of the East Lough Dan Wicklow Olympic Sun 26 July
Lough Neagh Triathlon Olympic Sat 15 Aug
Caroline Kearney Olympic Sat 15 Aug
Dublin City Tri Olympic Sun 30 Aug XX
Half Ireman Groomsport Down Half Iron Sun 30 Aug
The Lost Sheep Kenmare Kerry Half Iron Sat 12 Sept
Last year we found that we were unable to get the full number of races to maximise our points. This year it also appears difficult as several of the races are on the same day or weekend. It is also difficult to get a race every second week to allow time to recover. In addition there are other races that we do every year like the Mourne Triathlon in Castlewellan and the Ballina Tri as well as races which we like to work at such as Caroline Kearney and Tri to Beat, which clash with National Series races. You have to consider the journey time to and from the race, and whether you can manage to get entered. You may also need to pencil in extra races to allow for any DNF! or poor result due to puncture etc.
The races marked XX are the races we are considering entering in the 2009 National Series.
