Hello all,
I have got my brother (from Outdoor Sports) to forward this press release onto me (please see below). I think it will be of interest for Midland Tri club members. There has not been much advertisement about this event yet however a large amount of interest has already being generated. Just letting ye all no as this will allow members of the club to get their tickets first if interested. Tickets are limited due to space restrictions.
Regards,
Barney Mulvihill
P.S. Its also all for a good cause

Outdoor sports Mullingar are delighted to welcome Gavin Bate on Thursday 12th March @ 8pm. Gavin will share his experiences on Everest and also discuss less challenging adventure travel options available to people.
Gavin has an impressive climbing CV and has led four Everest Expeditions.
In 2000 he led the successful British team with members making the first ascent of the mountain in the new Millennium.
In 2002 he and friend attempted the north face/northeast ridge route without Sherpa support or supplementary oxygen. They turned back at the Second Step when gavins friend dislocated his kneecap, resulting in a difficult three day descent in stormy conditions.
In 2005 he climbed Everest by the SE Ridge alone and without oxygen, turning back just short of the summit because of queues at the Hillary step.
In 2007 Gavin returned to Tibet to attempt a traverse of Everest. Just below the summit he contracted a violent pulmonary oedema and made a very dramatic descent to Base Camp in 13 hours.
Gavin has lived most of his adult life on expedition or abroad; much of it in Kenya and especially in the slums of Kibera outside Nairobi. He worked occasionally with aid agencies and, touched by his experiences in developing countries and refugee camps, set up the trust called Moving Mountains which supports children and community initiatives in Kenya, Nepal and Niger. He then set up a Kenyan registered NGO under the same name. Both organisations now provide a vital link and support for many hundreds of people. Moving Mountains is now a large charity and supports many projects in East Africa and has built model green villages in the Himalaya.
Gavin started Adventure Alternative in 1991, which is owned outright by Gavin and is based in Northern Ireland. It is one of the leading adventure travel companies in the UK and Ireland offering a range of adventures from safaris to gap trips, to mountain guiding trips, plus it operates a Kenyan registered Safari company.
Gavin founded a charity called Moving Mountains which operates in Nepal, Niger and Kenya. This raises money through Gavins climbing expeditions supporting children and community initiatives.
This is guaranteed to be an entertaining and informative evening hosted by Outdoor Sports. All welcome, limited seating, tickets €5 with all money going to Gavin’s charity Moving Mountains.
Tickets available from Outdoor Sports, Unit 3 No. 12 Zone B Mullingar business Park. 044 9333672.
People are requested to be seated for 8pm, tea/cofee available on the night. Come early as representatives from our suppliers will be available to discuss technical merits of our leading products.
