I travelled with a free cardboard bike box once and it was perfect....... maybe even better that a bike case believe it or not. You can get a bike box from any bike shop for free as it will be thrown out, you can get the support axel thing for the forks from the shop too. The bike box also doubles up as a suitcase as you can pack the voids with clothes etc. (brilliant!)
Next time I travel with a bike I will go the bike box route.........

PS. Any solicitor reading over the above might advise me if I am making myself liable for any bikes damaged in transport, cant afford a bike box let alone a new carbon fibre frame for half a dozen midland triathletes!!
