Understood Brian. I was under the impression that we were going to focus on climbing the competitive club ladder and, therefore, equated this to gathering as many points as possible. However, for me, I think it would add a bit of fun to the year if we tried to focus more on points. It would also create for good club bonding for those of us not able to do the weekend's away, e.g. tracking the points table, working out race strategies, etc.

I agree Brian, never one to pass up a good session myself, its always good to have points for the club in mind but equally if not more important its about enjoying the race and having a good social aspect to it for the athletes and also the supporters.i.e. Wives, husbands, partners, kids etc, it always makes that beer afterwards so much nicer JP!

Hi doug, that sounds great i would love to do a race in the sun!! when is it? yes we could do some really good relay teams between running club, tri club swimming club and cycling club what are the dates for the ironman you mentioned? As far as planning races go for the year its a really good idea, we have done that properly in the wheelers for the first time this year. We picked about 8 goal races that we want to enter teams for and hopefully come into good form for too! If you dont get them picked early enough in advance it messes up your training beforehand & you dont feel ready for them so dont delay!! its all about setting goals isnt it!?

I think its good to get a decent mix of both national series and unranked events in throughout the season. I find the unranked events such as the tri to beat brilliant for preparing for the national series events, It should be up to each individual what races they want to attempt and that they should not feel bad that they are participating in an event that wont get the club any points on the league table.

Haha, we can drink, socialise, have weekends away, do ranked/unranked events, whatever ... we can do it all ... honest I for one will not feel bad if I drink more pints than score points but I still think the points and the pints would all be good fun.
