Cycling Ducks

In my short time since taking to cycling I've heard loads of stories about cyclists being targets for drive-by assaults, whether they be verbal or physical, but this one actually scares me!

This is an extract from the LakesideWheelers weekly blog (or club notes) about their annual Tour of the Lakes: "Wheeler Mick Reynolds was actually shot at during this Sunday’s outing. Four young clowns (and there is no other word for them) actually pointed an air rifle out of a car window and fired at Mick, hitting him in the back."

That's nuts!!! And I assume it was in the Westmeath /Longford area too so fairly close to home. Don't think Mick was hurt too bad but this is unreal.

While cycling in Clare last year just off the Hell of the west route a balloon of I assume water was thrown at me from a passing car just missing me, I noted the car type but couldn’t get the reg, also that there was two occupants.

I reported this describing the car in the next garda station I got the following reply.

“ah yea that’s ( name of driver), yea that would be about his level of intelligence. ya know he only got that car back off us last night, stopped him for no tax, insurance and English reg plate last week and impounded it till he got it sorted out. And I bet he had (name of passenger) with him I seen the two of them flying up and down the town this morning. Ah yea that I’d be them alright….”

So I asked did he want to take a statement etc… then came the bombshell…

“Ah look your only wasting my time and your energy, see you didn’t actually see who threw the balloon, so one of them will blame the other, and you cant identify either of them, as for the car well shur there’s hundreds of white Honda civics going around.
I tried to press the issue more saying it was obviously premeditated but to no avail…

So that was that… as I was leaving he shouted out to me don’t worry about it they ‘ll get tired of it shortly and move on to some other sort of entertainment… I dread to think
