Giving Aidan the tickets is an option, for sure and let's be done with this madness.

Geez Aidan you've changed your tune since you cajoled me yesterday to get on the notice board and press Brian for an answer ;D
Your comment above is very "obscure". Which do you want the tickets or race??
p.s. Brian there's a slight hitch anyway which needs to be sorted before your head-to-head (if it goes ahead). There was (is) a stewards enquiry as to your age category, i.e. M30 or M35. It's very important that it's clarified as there is a bit of betting going on (which I am not party to) ...

Agreed so..... but on one condition - you have to wear you best and brightest disco gear!...
...."Night fever, night fever. We know how to do it. Gimme that night fever, night fever. We know how to show it............"
I hope 'Bookie' Breda won't be too upset!

Okay, Aidan. Since you seem so determined.... Why don't we up the ante. The looser has to hand over the tickets and wear the brightest 70's gear (you can use your 60's gear!)..... remember you did say I could choose the distance....
Brian PS My coach is happy with how my training is going and thinks I'm ready to race..... if I could only get that Begees tune out of my head!

Hmmm... Aidan might have a point...? Looks like we'll have to settle this between us Aidan. I'll race ya for them!
Sun down, the harriers next Thursday. 5 or 6 mile, your call.
I have no intention of running a marathon or doing an Ironman against you for them tickets. I'd gladly raise my hands and surrender if that was the call. I know I'd be whooped!!!!!!!! My "60s" outfit is in the Taylors being taken in, for Friday.

Moooooooooooo !
Guys..."Wake me up before you go go... and start that race." You guys are climbing a stairway to ...ok better not go there ...rather I am keener on ..."staying alive" so won't get involved........
The loser better not blame it though on the sunshine or the moonlight.
Hope "another one doesn't bite the dust" before the "careless whispers" in the club start to worry about both of you "super troopers" with your failure to beat each other.
Whatever you do if leave the race till the nightclub on friday night ...........don't you go .....blaming it on the boogie !!!

As it's to close to call about who should actually get the tickets, the organisers of the event have suggested 'The DISCO A GO GO' race, which will consist of 2 laps of the Harriers track ( 800mtrs ) first home will be given the tickets on the spot, this is all in the name a charity and Breda has agreed to donate all the money made on the bets shes taken, run to take place before the run around the town. A no show or refusal to race will result in a post by a club member every day for a year to remaind you, you whimped out of a charity race all in the name of fun....

So? what happened?
Who's the better 800m runner? Who gets to strut around the Greville in flares for free?
Was the race timed?
I couldn't make it to the race, I'm still injured and tend to be busy eating my way through lots of fatty foods. Mmmm...Four star large hot jalapeno pizza with wedges chicken wings and garlic bread on the side....

Hi Colm, Stay away from the pizza… worse than any injury.
Race Report (inspired by Killians report)
Short Storey: Aidan won.
Longer Storey; It was decided (by me) that there was not going to be an 800m run around the track and instead it was going to be the usual 5mile lap around the town. We were going for a casual jog (all of us) with no mention of it turning into a race, that all seemed too foolish and childish. So 7-8 or so of us headed out; Mr Gerry Duffy, Mr Christy Creagh (+65catagory), Mr. Enda Mimnagh, Mr. Daly, Mr. Bates, some other guy whose name escapes me and myself (there could have been another – can’t seem to remember). I took the lead in a nice leisurely pace with Gerry beside me, chit chatting about the usual stuff, training/injuries and all that jazz. The pace picked up a little coming in towards the industrial estate, still no mention of the race… it seemed we were all in this together, jogging the whole way around. Someone then mentioned that the pace seemed to be picking up (nobody commented). Gerry who’s making a return after injury wisely asked someone else to take up the front position, obviously sensing that this may not just turn out to be a leisurely jog afterall. I was still in the front and was joined by Mr. Mimnagh, the pace quickened a little. As we approached the dog track the pace was definitely ‘comfortable’ and things seemed to pick up again. Aidan stepped into the scene as too did Christy. Gerry and Doug seemed to be falling back a little, obviously deciding to let things play. Now, we knew at the beginning that we were to race, but we never actually said we were going to race so its fair to say we couldn’t be sure if we were going to race. However things began to get a little clearer when Mr. Mimnagh decided he would like to be at the front with a half step ahead of me. I could sense his glance to make sure he wasn’t going too fast too soon. Aidan was in close toe, breathing and stomping heavily behind. It was obvious he was not letting anybody out of his sights! The ‘Race’ was most definitely on! I thought to myself at this stage that I feel OK, the pace is steady but OK, should I consider upping it a bit… maybe not, let Enda do that. Well he did. We were approaching the back of Dunnes and heading to Loreto at a fast pace, I still felt okay and knew I could make it home at this speed…. The question was could Aidan?
We approached the bridge at Loreto and all together, Enda at the front, me and Aidan almost side by side, with Aidan deciding to slip in front of me for the first time. Hmm…! As we approached the small hill after Loreto before the hospital roundabout Aidan made his move where he injected a bit of pace. I was feeling tired now but I thought this is Aidans play and if he got away he was gone… surely he was gambling, I held on at his heel as we headed to the hospital roundabout and as we turned into the wind for the home straight I could feel pain. Aidan was now in front. Mr. Mimnagh mocked us with a big increase in effortless pace, Aidan was able to respond, I tried to hang on…. Aidan must be going to go soon. No!. 1 metre turned into 2, then 5 and it was not long before it was 10… I was gone. Aidan kept a steady pace until after the first roundabout then he seemed to slow…. Did he mis-calculate? Had he gone too soon?.... It looked like he has. I re-focussed to try to catch him. My efforts were short lived as it Aidan put Enda back in his sights and began to chase him down with increased speed.
I don’t know how they finished as I was but a distant memory to them. Aidan finished in approx. 36 minutes with me a further 20 seconds behind. I was beaten, game over… well round one anyway. We shook hands, it was a good race and I think we both enjoyed it. Breda ‘The Bookie’ was still jumping around adding to the festivities and taking photographs.
I would like to thank Aidan for being so modest in victory and it looks like it won’t be our last battle. Mr. JP who was less restrained as he jeered from the showers…. Role on the running league Mr. O’Brien I say….. Brian PS. Did Doug ever finish?
