Hey all For all those not willing to contract Weils disease in the Liffey this Sunday at DC Tri, anyone doing Carlingford on the 30th? Sorry to offend anyone organising the Swim Across the Lake but I had already entered for this! More to the point , has anyone done the Carlingford course before and if so, what's it like? Smart comments from the likes of Duffy are not welcome at this most vital time in my triathlon season........................! A.F.

Hi Andrew !
Did this race last year and really enjoyed it apart from all the muck! Just before I did it last year the local farmers broke the world record for the most amount of tractors in a field at one time, i think this came in at 10,000 hard to believe ! anyway the roads resembled a field in the national ploughing championships and it rained the day of the race which didn't go down well. Their wasn't a part of me that was muck free when i finished the bike leg but lucky for you i think this was a once off!. Anyway back to the point.
SWIM - Two laps in salt water, exit water after first lap and back in again to complete second lap, nothing too difficult.
Bike - out and back towards Dundalk on a hilly route. You would be happy to hear none of these hills pose any great difficulty, in fact a very nice cycle route.
RUN - A totally flat 10k run along the sea front towards Greenore golf club and back again a nice flat scenic run.
Enjoy the race and hope I was of some help.
Finally, Carlingford is a beautiful spot and well worth the visit.
Mick ,

thanks Mick, I appreciate your comments. So it is a swim in the sea then, is it in a sheltered harbour or straight out into the waves?

It's a shark infested, north sea type swim. Watch "Deadlest Catch" on Discovery channel tonight and you'll get the picture.

Hi again Andrew !
The swim is in Carlingford lough, which is basically connected to the sea at Dundalk Bay.Aidan wasn't far off the mark either, sharks have been known to swim in these waters as the water temp is above average."JUST KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR THEM". Also i would leave the "PINK TOWEL" at home as the folk from Carlingford don't take to kindly to men with pink towels!
Have a save race and remember keep your eyes open !
Mick, ; ;D

Holy F*&k!
Right, just off the blower to Chief Brody, needs biggers boat etc and will be on standby and at the ready with his one bullet, one oxygen cannister in the event of any shark sightings.

Haha, at least you'll confirm your quickest swim time ... just rem the Jaws theme tune when you're swimming ... dun, dun, dun, dun ... dun, dun, dun, dun ..
