I'd love to marshall but I have a previous appointment on that day (if you can call a piss-up in Westport an appointment ... maybe an a-PINTS-ment??) Anyway, I'd love to be involved someway so if there is anything I can do other than on the day (and, of course, the day after) itself just let me know. Also, if you really need marshalls, I'm sure there are plenty of guys in the Wheelers only too glad to help and with plenty of experience managing bike races. I can ask around if you need ....

help from the wheelers would be great! they could gawk at cool bikes for a while on the 9th August at the very least as their are a few serious competitors taking part from around the country... Can you send on any names you get confirmation or they can contact me directly. I'll send you on my e-mail address. Cheers, Brian

It seems Mairtin (The) Savage has already passed the message to the wheelers. I'll probably be talking to a few of them at the kiddies time trial next Tuesday if you still need more marshalls. Question: do you think you will have enough marshalls in time or are you getting desperate?

Colm, Cycle route is as per website. Run route has changed but Killian should be updating this on the website. It's a 10km out and back taking in part of the Westmeath Way near Lilliput. Nice run. Road surface all the way but a little un-even in parts. Sorry Brian, still some confusion... Caroline Kearney section on midlandtri.com shows cycle as being two lap course, but athlete briefing says it's three laps. Run section shows as two laps of out and back course, briefing also says two laps of out and back, but above you say run is one lap of out and back course. Triathlonireland.ie says both cycle and run are two laps. Any chance the course details can be confirmed? Thanks.

Colm, I don't know the area but travelled over from Athlone this morning to do the bike course. I followed the map and the total distance was approx. 22km per lap.
There was a left turn just outside Castletown Geoghan that would have got me back to Lilliput in 14k so if its a 3 lap course, then I guess that may be the route to take.
I'm also confused about the course distance, in some places 40k is stated and in others, 45k.

Ronan, Mairtin (The) Savage, Thanks for passing on the word and yes I am desperate! we are still in need of 23 names for marshalling positions. A BIG THANK YOU to all thouse who have already sent me your names to lend a hand but spread the word. We are still lacking help for the day.
Colm, You are correct. The website is inaccurate. As I don't have admin rights and don;t manage it I can't correct it but will get on to those in control. Thanks for bringing this up!! To clarify the course; Cycle is two (2) laps of the loop indicated on the map posted on the web. Total distance is approx 42km. You should have received via e-mail an updated version of the athletes briefing earlier in the week. Run is a 10km out and back utilising part of the Westmeath Way walk. Hope this helps clear things up and will try and get website updated ASAP Brian I

Brian, Just been speaking to my Niece and she is gathering up a few of her mates(hopefully) to do Marshalls for race, not sure yet but she is quite convincing so fingers crossed we'll have a good few hands to help out on the day. Also have a good number between my Father and a few of his staff to lend a hand, still working on it but getting there. JP

Hi Brian,
Do you know at this stage what time marshall's briefing is on Saturday 9th. Sorry to hassle you but I want to make arrangements on the home front for the day.
Can you provisionally put Freddy's name down to marshall on the Saturday. If the day is dry and sunny he will be harvesting but if it's not so good a day he can marshall. He's sorry he cant give a more definite committment.
Paula.

Morning all,
couple of things for ye,
First thing is a plea for help. The Caroline Kearney Memorial Triathlon is taking place this weekend, saturday 9th at 12.00 noon, we have a full roster - 315 individual entries and 22 teams, if the weather is holds out we should have a fantastic turn out. We've decided to try and get registration set up on Thursday, to take the pressure off us on friday (a note about that later). Can I plead with one and all to turn out to Lilliput on thursday at 18.30 to help get tents put up and transition set up, so lots of manual labouring. A plan is in place and you'll see the size of the undertaking for transition, so all help will be hugely appreciated. CK Tri Marshals race (over the sprint distance) will take place on friday - briefing at 18.45, with the start at 19.00, details on the course etc to follow later).
Second thing is also a plea. For last years race, we asked people to take an item (or part thereof) from a food list to help out feeding the competitors. Now, I would say its important not to over extend anyone, we will re-imburse anyone with a receipt, but last year, people took a small portion off the list on a voluntary basis and it worked out very well. So if you see an item that you think you'd take on, please sign yourself down, and emai back the list to Deirdre Roche
thats all folks - thanks hugely On behalf of everyone on the race committee
Killian

JP, Music to my ears. Your names just filled in all my blanks on the day. Looks like we'll have a full compliment of marshals which makes things a whole lot safer! Can you ask the folks to be there no later than 10:45am saturday morning for marshal sign in. Also are any of these folks interested in doing the marshal race on the friday evening? Many thanks again!
