My report on the Tri To Beat Cancer Triathlon !
Just thought Id write a report on my experience of my very first triathlon !
On the 5th of July I prepared for the big race ( well it was big in my eyes).
I had a slight notion on what to expect as I've spectated at many triathlons with my dad ( Doug ) before.
I felt nervous but not as much as I thought I would be. So in the car on the way to Belvedere I
asked 101 questions about the race to my dad. But he assured me everything was going to be fine.
so I trusted him and started to get excited. So when we arrived we brought down the bikes and got them checked the
once over , then racked them .At this point the nerves were slowly creeping back as soon as I saw all the other bikes.
My dad went to get my chip and I knew there was no turning back now even if I wanted to .
So I got my Transition sorted out and Brian Ivory spotted me . He went through everything I needed and the order I would do things in !
This helped me allot , so thanks Brian ! ..
I saw lots of people from Midland Tri Club who Wished me well in the race. This gave me a great boost !
It was then time for the race briefing , wich I have to admit kind of frightened me ,, all the talk of drafting and I hadn't a clue about it ! oops !
But all was well and we headed down to the lake , Everyone warmed up ( even tho it was still freezing ) .
As soon as the Whistle went all I thought about was my swim and nothing els , I got a few kicks to the head but I'm sure I gave a few too so I was alright ,I
got a bit of a fright when I saw weeds longer than me right in my face , but I thought they were eels as my Dad and Aidan Daley had told me they saw some the night before ..thanks for that
so I swam faster to get out of the water as soon as possible for that reason . I dint know my exact time of my swim but it was in around 19 - 20 mins which I was really happy with.
After getting out of the water hearing friends and family cheering gave me a great boost to go on . so I ran up the hill to transition ,
I didn't really care about transition times ( sorry Brian Boyle ) so I dried my feet and put on my socks had a drink and then put on my helmet and finally got out on the bike !
Again I dint know my exact time for the bike but I felt I done a good one . I met my Dad on the bike route as he was finishing his last lap and I was just starting my last lap . He
gave me a pat on the back and said " I'm proud of ya kiddo " so I went hell for leather on the last loop with great confidence after hearing that .
As I was coming toward T2 I got great encouragement from the marshals who were also members of Midland Tri Club . So I racked my bike took off my helmet and ran
out of transition to hear more people cheering so that kept me going for a while. The run I felt was never ending !!! and I thought I was running up Mount Everest at some stages with
the size of the hills on the course.I think Paul McCool mapped every hill in Belvedere for that race . Thanks for that ! NOT ! Well I has half way home and I Seen BrĂda MacDonald at the stream of life
and she was great support , I could still hear here cheering me on a half a mile down the road !! There was one time I stopped to walk but I was quickly back on my toes as I was
caught by Dorothy Duffy who told me to keep running I was nearly done ,, so I did . And I was nearly done , I could hear people at the finish line. So I ran faster !!
And before I knew it I was over the line ! Were I was welcomed by a big hug and a kiss from my dad were he told me again "I'm proud of ya kiddo" I was so happy I finished it !
and if it wasn't for my dad I wouldn't of done it , or the training !! To hear Jerry Duffy calling my name out on the mic and telling everyone I was the youngest competitor there made
me feel like I was a proper Triathlon .. hehe .. It was all over just like that .. it was so quick . So all I done after was relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day . So it came to the Prize giving and me and my dad
headed inside to give our support . I hadn't a clue I had one a trophy so when they called my name as second jnr female I was so excited and had a smile from one side of face to the other , and all I could here was
cheers and Paul McCool ! shouting "go on Nicole " . That was the icing on the cake winning that , I was on such a high for rest of the day ! It was a great day and a great experience. So thanks to all of the Mildland Tri
who was more than welcoming to me for the past year !
